Thirty-one other rooms let Daylen Everette slide, and the Buccaneers were the ones holding the card at No. 121. Highway robbery.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Rodriguez pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 49 leaves tight end, edge rusher and other spots for later.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elijah Sarratt in slot 92. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Jalen Farmer in No. 112, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Daylen Everette in pick 121 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Zxavian Harris at the 152nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Jakobe Thomas was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Jeff Caldwell in the 195th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Ephesians Prysock reach the 229th overall pick and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
