Call it larceny. Keon Coleman sat on the board until the 65th pick, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If Spann-Ford pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Chargers paired the rookies with proven help, Roger McCreary leading the way.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Malik Nabers and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 38th overall pick, where Jordan Morgan graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Keon Coleman still on the board at pick No. 65. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Brenden Rice higher than No. 97, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braelon Allen in pick 105 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled LaDarius Henderson all the way to the 183rd pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Brevyn Spann-Ford at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
