The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Troy Franklin at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Paul in No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen McMillan in slot 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jarrian Jones at the 137th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tip Reiman at Round 6, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Jase McClellan at pick 193, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Nathan Thomas in the 231st overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
