The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Craig Woodson, the No. 206 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 31 like a gift left on the doorstep. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
If Hemingway pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, with Tetairoa McMillan leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in the 44th overall pick, where Omarion Hampton graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zy Alexander in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Sebastian Castro still on the board at pick No. 117. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Shemar Turner at Round 5, Pick 11 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quarterback of that caliber at pick 171 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
DJ Giddens slipping to No. 174 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Willie Lampkin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Cobee Bryant at pick No. 204 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Tonka Hemingway in No. 211 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay R.J. Mickens at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Craig Woodson at the 247th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
