The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Hartman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
The Newton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 27 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 36th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Bralen Trice at pick 40, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in the 67th overall pick, where Xavier Worthy graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Roger Rosengarten at No. 100 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 2; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Josh Newton in slot 139 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kitan Oladapo in the 152nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Sam Hartman at No. 222 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
