They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
Torrence falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 34. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Amarius Mims in the 38th pick, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Keon Coleman all the way to pick No. 68, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Dominick Puni was the payoff at No. 103. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Mason McCormick at slot 180 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Dillon Johnson at Round 6, Pick 18 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ro Torrence in No. 221 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Trey Knox slipping to Round 7, Pick 11 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
