The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jared Wilson, the No. 106 name on the board, in No. 145. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to Nick Emmanwori, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 38, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Cameron Williams in pick 58 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at slot 69, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Denzel Burke, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 4. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at the 145th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Oronde Gadsden II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Donovan Edwards in the 222nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cody Lindenberg at No. 240 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
