Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the Round 7 slot on Frank Crum, a name most had 38 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. It is not that Taylor-Demerson is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 44th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in the 58th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 89 leaves quarterback, running back and other spots for later.
Nothing to complain about; Dominick Puni went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Fisher in pick No. 112 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Jarrian Jones in No. 126; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Khristian Boyd at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Jordan Magee at slot 202, well ahead of any board in the building. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Trevin Wallace at the 219th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen Sundell at the 245th pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Ryan Watts in Round 7, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Taylor in pick 256 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Crum well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
