Pittsburgh Steelers

Larceny in slot 99 lands the Steelers a B-, Corleone and all.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Dontay Corleone got past him. The Steelers do not have to explain a thing at pick 99. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Barrett pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In slot 21 they get protection for the quarterback. Need was not the driver here.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman in No. 53 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 53
Circle this one: Eli Stowers at Round 3, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Skyler Bell · WR · rank 88
A straight-up fair deal on Skyler Bell at pick No. 85, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
The board fumbled Dontay Corleone all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
Steal is underselling it; Ja'Kobi Lane at the 121st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 133
Harold Perkins Jr. in the 135th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
Fair-plus on Drew Allar, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.35 · Pick 216 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 220
No drama and no debate, Thaddeus Dixon went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Nick Barrett · DL · rank 254
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nick Barrett this early at No. 224. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.14 · Pick 230 · Jaren Kanak · TE · rank 227
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaren Kanak in slot 230. It fills a real need, too.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 242
They paid sticker price for Eli Heidenreich in the 237th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
