Washington Commanders

A passer of the future in Daniels, and a B-, for the Commanders.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
In pick No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 55
Xavier Worthy in the 58th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Austin Booker · DE-EDGE · rank 78
They jumped the gun on Austin Booker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson in No. 78 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
A wild overpay on Johnny Wilson in the 105th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
Theo Johnson slipping to slot 139 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 133
Christian Jones at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamal Hadden at pick 181. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 212
They paid up for Caedan Wallace at No. 202 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 213
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nathaniel Watson in Round 7, Pick 2. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Kalen DeLoach · S · rank 247
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Kalen DeLoach. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
