Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
However the rest shakes out, Skattebo at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting Parr proves the room right and everyone else wrong. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
Abdul Carter at pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jahdae Barron in slot 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to the 38th pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ozzy Trapilo at No. 105 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Skattebo in the 145th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jabbar Muhammad in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No edge and no loss on Trevor Etienne in Round 7, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Logan Parr enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 240. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
