Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. Daijahn Anthony, the No. 193 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 256. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Lloyd reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a sticky cover corner, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Junior Colson in No. 69 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
MarShawn Lloyd in the 109th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Luke McCaffrey at pick 139 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Davis in the 183rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in slot 223, where Austin Stogner graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Daijahn Anthony at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
