The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If Bell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Elliss at No. 40, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: T.J. Tampa still on the board at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zak Zinter in slot 101 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Jaheim Bell in pick 112 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 141st pick, where Cedric Gray graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
