The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Clark at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 26th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 27 they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Calen Bullock in pick 50, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jonah Elliss at No. 54 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zach Frazier at Round 3, Pick 7 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ricky Pearsall in the 88th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves quarterback and tight end untouched.
Isaiah Adams at pick No. 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at slot 133 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Edefuan Ulofoshio, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Layden Robinson at Round 5, Pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Cody Schrader slipping to the 182nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Isaiah Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
De'Corian Clark in the 224th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Watson at slot 243. The roster fit checks out.
