The war room fell hard for Antwane Wells Jr., and it showed at No. 155: 49 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 18 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dillon Gabriel. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Alfred Collins at Round 3, Pick 18 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Mello Dotson at par in the 119th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Antwane Wells Jr. at pick No. 155 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
