The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Kamari Ramsey, pick 112, roughly 38 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will need Pavia to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Hill Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. More want than need.
In pick No. 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 31st pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Dillon Thieneman at slot 36 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Anthony Hill Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves tight end untouched.
Jake Slaughter in pick 63 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and LT Overton at Round 3, Pick 14 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zachariah Branch in No. 92 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Domonique Orange all the way to No. 102, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kamari Ramsey while clear needs at tight end sat open.
Nice patience on Emmett Johnson, who had no business lasting to the 113th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 117th pick, where Tacario Davis graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Parker Brailsford in Round 4, Pick 34, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Taylen Green in slot 175; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Keagen Trost, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Diego Pavia in the Round 6 slot, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eli Heidenreich well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
