Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Drew Allar at No. 77 is 79 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. However the rest shakes out, Kanak at that price is a win they earned. The Davis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Emmanuel Pregnon in pick 46, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on D'Angelo Ponds in slot 50, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took A.J. Haulcy at par in pick No. 51, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Drew Allar in the 77th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nicholas Singleton in Round 3, Pick 29 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Parker Brailsford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Jude Bowry in the 118th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Harold Perkins Jr. at No. 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Edge rusher needed the pick; a cornerback in Tacario Davis did not.
No drama and no debate, Toriano Pride Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 26. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zavion Thomas at slot 232 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Jaren Kanak at the 251st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
