Pittsburgh Steelers

Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Branch: B-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Zachariah Branch slide, and the Steelers were the ones holding the card at No. 85. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Rutledge has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the 21st pick they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman at the 53rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Zachariah Branch · WR · rank 61
They barely believed it either: Zachariah Branch still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 114
The board had cheaper options than Keylan Rutledge at Round 3, Pick 35, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 99
Steal is underselling it; Malik Muhammad at pick No. 121 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 131
A clean, defensible pick in pick 135 with a little surplus value in Oscar Delp. The roster fit checks out.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 171
They paid a round early for Aamil Wagner in No. 161, more than the board wanted. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 216
A tidy bit of business in slot 224, where Jeremiah Wright graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.14 · Pick 230 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 222
Zavion Thomas slid further than he should have, and pick No. 230 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · Miles Kitselman · TE · rank 223
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Miles Kitselman in slot 237. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 257
Robert Spears-Jennings at the 248th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
