You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Joe Milton III at Round 5, Pick 31, roughly 33 spots before his name belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. It is not that Bullock is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Sainristil makes the weekend a net positive.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In pick 31 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at pick No. 35 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Bullard at the 38th pick, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
Payton Wilson at the 49th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 72
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 62. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
A tidy little value on Patrick Paul in No. 75, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 14. Tight end needed the pick; a safety in Calen Bullock did not.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
A reach on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
A slide stopped in pick 88, with Mike Sainristil worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in the 95th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cole Bishop at safety with tight end open.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 106
Braelon Allen in pick No. 105 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 108
Mekhi Wingo in slot 106 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Maason Smith · DT · rank 111
No edge and no loss on Maason Smith in pick No. 107; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent pick 108 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in the 122nd pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
They let Mason McCormick come to them and pounced at the 157th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Value said wait; Joe Milton III in No. 167 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
