Green Bay Packers

Nobody dealt better than the Packers this weekend: B.

Future B-

The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Braelon Allen went at the Round 4 slot, a good 39 picks before the board was ready.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, tight end and other spots. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
Kamren Kinchens at the 34th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 37
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in pick No. 37, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 40
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 18, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 72
Trey Benson at No. 60 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 67
No edge and no loss on Caelen Carson in pick 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots sat open.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
They took Johnny Wilson at par in Round 3, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
Darius Robinson at the 114th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 155
This one needs a full-page explanation: Braelon Allen in pick No. 116, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
