Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Darius Robinson at the 72nd overall pick is 49 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Getting Corum where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Quinyon Mitchell at the 33rd pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Calen Bullock a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Trey Benson at pick No. 57 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sedrick Van Pran well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots to take Junior Colson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Johnny Wilson in No. 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Darius Robinson in the 72nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 25. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Caelen Carson at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Blake Corum at the 99th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khyree Jackson is a better player than pick 116 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dillon Johnson in slot 119 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tommy Eichenberg at linebacker with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah Adams in Round 4, Pick 31. It fills a real need, too.
