The rest of the league had time to spare on Trevin Wallace; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 55 spots ahead at slot 178. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Packers indulged a want in Colson while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in the 42nd pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 46, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in the 48th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Junior Colson while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Benson at the 71st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Max Melton at pick No. 75 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Michael Hall Jr. in the 79th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Calen Bullock at safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
A reach on Brenden Rice in No. 88; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A curious use of slot 98. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
Fair-plus on Khyree Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at pick 106 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Braelon Allen at slot 107 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Will Shipley in No. 110, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Johnny Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 114th pick. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trevin Wallace in pick No. 178, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
