Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Packers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Benson left real value on the table behind him. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at No. 42, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kamren Kinchens in the 47th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Payton Wilson at linebacker with quarterback and tight end open.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the 62nd pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 63 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Calen Bullock in pick 69 leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
They paid a round early for Jaylen Wright in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Benson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Marshawn Kneeland in pick 83, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in No. 85. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at quarterback and tight end sat open.
Brenden Rice in slot 92 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Braelon Allen at Round 3, Pick 33 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Leonard Taylor III at the 98th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Max Melton higher than the 104th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves quarterback and tight end untouched.
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Wilson at pick 115, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Javon Foster in the 122nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
