The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Audric Estime, pick 152, roughly 49 picks past where he belonged. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Quinyon Mitchell and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 36 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 44th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Morgan in the 72nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Max Melton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 6, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Patrick Paul in pick 111 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
McKinnley Jackson at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Audric Estime in slot 152, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Nelson Ceaser at par in pick 159, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Jamari Thrash was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaheim Bell in slot 185 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Garret Greenfield here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
