This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Domani Jackson, the No. 179 name on the board, stolen at the 216th pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Wagner proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Christen Miller, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled A.J. Haulcy all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Chase Bisontis in slot 85 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Skyler Bell at the 99th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
They let Zakee Wheatley come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 4. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Malik Muhammad at pick 121 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aamil Wagner a notch or two before his time. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 216 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Josh Cameron here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Zavion Thomas in slot 230, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Miles Kitselman in pick No. 237. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
