Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jordan Hall at pick No. 237 is 94 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That McNeil-Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while edge rusher and running back went begging. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Emmanuel Pregnon slipping to Round 2, Pick 21 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Germie Bernard all the way to the 76th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick 85 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Zakee Wheatley higher than slot 99, and the safety fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Malik Muhammad in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 135th pick on Aamil Wagner with edge rusher and running back unsolved.
Nothing to complain about; Drew Allar went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Miles Kitselman at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Zavion Thomas at slot 224 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 230; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Hall at pick 237 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
