The one they had to fix is still broken. The Steelers left quarterback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman. The cost of the Spears-Jennings reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A real need, handled.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dillon Thieneman in the 53rd overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Germie Bernard at slot 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Jalen Farmer at par in No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Aamil Wagner in pick 173 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid a round early for Ephesians Prysock in Round 5, Pick 34, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zavion Thomas in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Miles Kitselman at pick No. 224 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Robert Spears-Jennings at pick 237 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
