Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent pick 237 on Isaiah Jatta, a name most had 33 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Lance to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In the 26th overall pick they get a downhill hitter at safety. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Keylan Rutledge in slot 85, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Skyler Bell is a better player than pick No. 99 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Bryce Lance in the 121st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
A premium they did not need to pay, Chris McClellan a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Nate Boerkircher in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
