The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Domonique Orange, the No. 77 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Denzel Boston in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Josiah Trotter at No. 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 85 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Kamari Ramsey at slot 99 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Domonique Orange in Round 4, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Charles Demmings in the 161st pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sawyer Robertson in the 216th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Dallen Bentley at slot 220 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Zavion Thomas in No. 224, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Jatta. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
