When the story of this class is written, it opens with DeMonte Capehart at pick 212, a reach of 53 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the 34th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Payton Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 56. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Troy Franklin in the 68th pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 87 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for MarShawn Lloyd in slot 124, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Joe Milton III come to them and pounced at No. 174. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for DeMonte Capehart. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nathaniel Watson at pick 245 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
