Call it larceny. Domonique Orange sat on the board until the 161st pick, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Jatta reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a rangy last line of defense, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Mansoor Delane was still sitting there in the 53rd pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Christen Miller at pick No. 76 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Germie Bernard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 99th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Sam Roush in slot 135 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Domonique Orange in Round 5, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Zavion Thomas enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 216. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Jimmy Rolder in No. 224, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Isaiah Jatta in the 230th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Robert Spears-Jennings in Round 7, Pick 21. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
