Call it larceny. Dillon Thieneman sat on the board until slot 85, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice.
They are betting Norfleet proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay CJ Allen at the 53rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Gennings Dunker at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Dillon Thieneman at Round 3, Pick 21 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deion Burks in slot 99. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jalon Kilgore at the 121st pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Drew Allar in No. 161, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Ephesians Prysock still on the board at pick 216. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 224 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Brett Norfleet in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Cameron Ball at No. 237 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
