The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Davison Igbinosun slide 136 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Spencer Fano in slot 53 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Omar Cooper Jr. was still sitting there in the 76th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Anthony Hill Jr. at Round 3, Pick 21 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Malik Muhammad at pick 121 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 135 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 161 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Davison Igbinosun still on the board at the 216th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 8: Sawyer Robertson for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zavion Thomas at the 230th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Miles Kitselman in No. 237. It fills a real need, too.
