When a board-topper like Carson Beck slides to the 216th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Steelers did not. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a centerfielder for the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Arvell Reese here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Emmanuel Pregnon at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Chris Bell in No. 85 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Christen Miller all the way to pick No. 99, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Treydan Stukes in the 121st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Malik Muhammad in pick 135 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a cornerback like Jalon Kilgore reach the 161st overall pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Carson Beck still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ephesians Prysock in Round 7, Pick 8 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zavion Thomas at slot 230 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 237th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
