Abney II should have been long gone. The Buccaneers pounced, and earned a B-.

Somebody in the Round 3 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Buccaneers sat still while Keith Abney II, the No. 43 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Height reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · T.J. Parker · DE-EDGE · rank 23
In pick 15 they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Romello Height · DE-EDGE · rank 65
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Romello Height. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Keith Abney II · CB · rank 43
Taking Keith Abney II in the 95th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
