You build a draft on nights like this. Sataoa Laumea had no business being available in the Round 5 slot, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in slot 64; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Javon Baker in pick No. 95, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in No. 132, with Tyler Davis worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Chau Smith-Wade at pick 159 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Sataoa Laumea in the 173rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Trey Knox here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
