The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the No. 186 name on the board, in No. 249.
They are betting Crawshaw proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.12
· Pick 12
· Will Campbell
· OT
· rank 11
In pick No. 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· Tyleik Williams
· DT
· rank 42
They took Tyleik Williams at par in pick 44, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.12
· Pick 76
· Dylan Fairchild
· OG
· rank 92
A reach for Dylan Fairchild in the 76th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.11
· Pick 150
· Nazir Stackhouse
· DL
· rank 191
Nazir Stackhouse in the 150th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.31
· Pick 170
· Billy Bowman Jr.
· S
· rank 120
A safety of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.33
· Pick 172
· Jeremy Crawshaw
· P
· rank 231
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jeremy Crawshaw. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.35
· Pick 174
· Luke Lachey
· TE
· rank 190
They went early on Luke Lachey in Round 5, Pick 35, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.12
· Pick 190
· Dorian Strong
· CB
· rank 162
Dorian Strong in slot 190 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.33
· Pick 211
· Jamon Dumas-Johnson
· LB
· rank 211
No edge and no loss on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in pick No. 211; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.31
· Pick 249
· KeAndre Lambert-Smith
· WR
· rank 186
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at Round 7, Pick 31 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
