Philadelphia Eagles

A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Eagles get a C.

The Eagles put a flag in the ground for Steven Parker, 152 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

The Skattebo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

If Tyler Warren and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 43
In pick 31 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
R5.2 · Pick 139 · Phil Mafah · RB · rank 161
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Phil Mafah well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.8 · Pick 145 · Phillip Webb · DL-EDGE · rank 286
A wild overpay on Phillip Webb in Round 5, Pick 8, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.23 · Pick 160 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 297
Jasheen Davis at No. 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.25 · Pick 162 · Tyler Batty · DE-EDGE · rank 299
Value said wait; Tyler Batty in the 162nd pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.26 · Pick 163 · Steven Parker · DE-EDGE · rank 315
They left a pile of value on the table to take Steven Parker this early at the 163rd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.27 · Pick 164 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 99
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.29 · Pick 166 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 113
Chris Paul Jr. in pick 166 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R5.37 · Pick 174 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 118
Jeffrey Bassa in the 174th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Kobe King · LB · rank 123
Kobe King at pick No. 177 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 220
Tonka Hemingway in slot 190 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 272
Thor Griffith at the 198th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Tim Smith · DL · rank 293
A real head-scratcher, Tim Smith in No. 211 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Joey Slackman · DL · rank 277
Joey Slackman at Round 6, Pick 39 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.40 · Pick 215 · Kalel Mullings · RB · rank 104
They will replay Kalel Mullings at the 215th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 110
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Peny Boone · RB · rank 364
A big swing on Peny Boone at Round 7, Pick 27, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Cooper Mays · C · rank 266
Cooper Mays at No. 256 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
