You could see the war room lean forward. Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Ashton Jeanty is a better player than slot 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Deone Walker slid further than he should have, and pick No. 76 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hollin Pierce at the 149th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Jeffrey Bassa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Dillon Gabriel at pick 171 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
