Somebody in No. 150 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Will Howard, the No. 103 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Maxwell Hairston in slot 76. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quarterback of that caliber at the 150th pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cody Simon at No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Bhayshul Tuten in pick 172 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Nick Nash reach the 174th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
