Nobody else had Curtis Jacobs anywhere near the 172nd overall pick. The Eagles did, by 25 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at slot 50 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Xavier Worthy in No. 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Walter Rouse in Round 5, Pick 25; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the 171st overall pick: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Curtis Jacobs in the 172nd pick says they were not listening. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 210 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
