For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Eagles walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If Bortolini pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Lassiter value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Kamari Lassiter, who had no business lasting to slot 53. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Javon Baker in the 98th overall pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Jaheim Bell in pick 161; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Mustapha at the 171st pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Tanor Bortolini at No. 172 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Frank Gore Jr. a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
