The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Zane Durant went at the Round 4 slot, a good 50 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Wright at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at slot 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Keionte Scott in pick 60, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deion Burks in the 89th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Zane Durant in Round 4, Pick 29 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeremiah Wright at No. 239 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Logan Taylor at Round 7, Pick 25, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
