The Bills treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 220th overall pick on Tyler Onyedim a full 53 spots early. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with linebacker the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Kayden McDonald at No. 26 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 3, Pick 27 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
CJ Daniels in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kage Casey at the 165th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take VJ Payne this early at slot 168. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nyjalik Kelly in pick No. 182 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Tyler Onyedim at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
