Somebody in slot 256 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Broncos sat still while Robert Spears-Jennings, the No. 231 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Joly pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Lee Hunter worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenen Thompson in Round 4, Pick 8. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach on Justin Joly in slot 111; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Albert Regis at par in pick No. 170, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Lander Barton at No. 246 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Robert Spears-Jennings still on the board at the 256th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
