The Colts went off the board in a big way for Jaishawn Barham, 50 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 15, with Chris Johnson worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Jaishawn Barham in the 78th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Genesis Smith higher than pick No. 113, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Bryce Boettcher enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 156. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Patrick Payton at pick 214, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyren Montgomery at No. 249 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in No. 254: Terion Stewart for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
