You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Wesley Williams in pick No. 223. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That Lee III pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Brian Parker II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Will Lee III still on the board at pick No. 147. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Kaleb Elarms-Orr come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 209th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Wesley Williams in No. 223 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
