The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Oscar Delp fell into pick No. 178. No fireworks, but a solid B.
With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Antonio Williams at the 54th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Deontae Lawson at pick No. 68 when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Romello Height was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Taurean York adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots untouched.
Malik Muhammad at pick 137 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah World in the 153rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oscar Delp in No. 178, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, J'Mari Taylor in pick No. 197. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
