Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Nathan Thomas. He came off 36 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Ali pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in pick No. 34: Kool-Aid McKinstry for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Christian Jones at the 133rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Jefferson at slot 158 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nathan Thomas. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Joe Milton III in No. 187 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Kenny Logan Jr. at Round 7, Pick 34 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Rasheen Ali at No. 257 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
