When the story of this class is written, it opens with Korey Foreman at No. 222, a reach of 151 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Hecht steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Zion Young at slot 50 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Keyron Crawford at pick No. 118 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sam Hecht in the 128th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow J.C. Davis was still sitting there in pick 157, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Aaron Graves at No. 181, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nick Barrett in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jeff Caldwell in Round 6, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Korey Foreman in the 222nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
